Dry Ice Blasting, What is it?
It is a process in which particles of solid carbon dioxide (C02) in the form of rice pellets are propelled at supersonic air stream velocities to achieve the impact energy to strip and clean surfaces. It works somewhat like sandblasting without being abrasive or adding to the waste stream. The frigid temperature of the dry ice – 109.3 F 0r -78.5 C “blasting” against the material to be removed, causes it to shrink and lose adhesion from its sub surface. Additionally when some of the dry ice penetrates through the material to be removed, it comes in contact with the underlying surface. The warmer sub surface causes the dry ice to convert back into carbon dioxide gas. The gas expands to nearly 800 times the volume of the pellet in milliseconds in what creates a small series of micro-explosions at the impact point causing the removal of the contaminant. Only the removed material must be disposed of as the dry ice sublimes into the atmosphere, thus demonstrating its environmentally safe properties. Please Call Dan Simpson 250-480-9309.
